SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore
Ashley Petersen (Manchester, CT) won two events for the Western New England College women's swimming team in a 139-109 loss against Eastern Connecticut Wednesday evening (Feb. 3) in the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
Petersen captured the 200-yard freestyle in two minutes, 9.09 seconds and came back to place first in the 100 freestyle in 59.37 seconds.
She also swam the second leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay team with freshman
Danielle Caron (Marlborough, MA), junior
Aimee Smachetti (Bristol, CT), and senior co-captain
Krista Goulet (Saco, ME) who turned in a time of 1:51.35.
Smachetti also finished first in the 50 butterfly (30.41) while senior
Katelyn Skrzypiec (Manchester, CT) took first in the 500 freestyle (6:00.29).
Western New England College also received a first-place showing from freshman
Christine Fairbanks (Salt Point, NY) in the 200 breaststroke (3:04.87).
The Warriors (7-3) had two double-winners, senior
Jessica Wilson (Torrington, CT) in the 400 individual medley (5:01.40) and 50 breaststroke (33.05), and junior
Katie Curran (Norwood, MA) won both the 50 backstroke (30.78) and 200 backstroke (2:20.64) events.
This was the last dual meet of the season for the Golden Bears who compiled a 3-9 record.
It also was the final home appearance for Goulet and Skrzypiec.
The Golden Bears will compete in the NEISDA Championship Feb. 19-21 in White River, Vermont.
