Strong effort falls just short as Western New England College bows to Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass.
- Senior forward Jeff Olitch (Calgary, AB) scored two power play goals, the last coming with 1:42 left in the third period as No. 16 Wentworth Institute of Technology held off upset-minded Western New England College 3-1 in an ECAC Northeast men's hockey game Sunday (Jan. 31) at Matthews Arena.

The Leopards, who improved their record to 15-2-1, are second in the league with a 7-1 mark.

WNEC dominated the opening period taking a 1-0 lead when sophomore forward Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) notched his fifth goal of the season with assists from freshman forward Nico Santaniello (East Longmeadow, MA) and junior forward Chris Beaudoin (Enfield, CT) at the 6:48 mark.

The Leopards finally broke through when Olitch knotted the score at 12:30 of the middle period. 

Freshman defenseman Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, CA) scored on an empty goal with 23 seconds left in the contest. He also earned the assists on both of Olitch's goals.

Western New England College received a great performance from freshman goalie T.J. Fatse (Hampden, MA) who turned away 39 shots. The Golden Bears also won 40-of-79 face-offs.

Freshman goalie Michael Jarboe (Grosse Pointe Park, MI) compiled 11 saves for Wentworth.

Western New England College is now 1-15-1 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
