Western New England College rallies in second half for TCCC win over Nichols

- Senior guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) scored a season-high 26 points as the Western New England College women's basketball team rallied for a 77-68 victory over Nichols Thursday night (Jan. 28).

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Golden Bears who upped their record to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

Al-Darraji made 8-of-12 shots from the floor, including 5-of-7 from three-point territory. She also was 5-of-7 from the foul line and pulled down eight rebounds.

Freshman guard Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) and freshman center Elena Radzikowski (Medway, MA) each added 15 points as WNEC rallied from a 56-46 deficit midway through the second half. Savino also grabbed eight rebounds and Radzikowski made 7-of-9 field-goal attempts.

Savino made two free throws to cap a 12-2 run and knot the contest at 58-58 with 6:17 left. Al-Darraji drained a three-pointer to break a 62-62 tie at the 3:24 mark and the Golden Bears made 7-of-8 charity shots down the stretch for the important road victory.

Nichols had a 30 to 25 edge in field goals, but the Golden Bears sank 20-of-25 foul shots (80%) while the Bison were only 3-of-7 (42.9%).

Junior guard Ashley Robidoux (Milford, MA) had 18 points for the hosts while junior forward Jessica Nelson (North Providence, RI) netted 15 points.
