- Junior forward Matt Sayer (Lowell, MA) had three goals and an assist to lead Nichols to a 7-2 victory over visiting Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast men's hockey game Wednesday evening (Jan. 27).

The Bison raised their record to 10-6-2 and 4-3 in the league while the Golden Bears dropped to 1-14-1 and 1-6 in the ECAC following their seventh consecutive loss.

Nichols tallied twice on power play goals for a 2-0 lead after the first period. The hosts scored twice in the opening 2:32 of the middle stanza before WNEC cut the margin to 4-2 after 40 minutes.

Sophomore forward Mike Kaselouskas (East Longmeadow, MA) netted the first WNEC goal at the 7:06 mark with an assist from senior defenseman Drew Vrolyk (Boylston, MA). Junior forward Vinny Weyel (North Haven, CT) cut the margin to two after firing in a shot at 13:31 with an assist from senior defenseman Joe Trimboli (Las Vegas, NV).

Sayer scored his second goal at 6:09 of the final stanza and then the Bison broke the game open with two goals in a 1:23 span. Sophomore forward Bobby Gauthier (Warwick, RI) made it 6-2 at the 11:17 mark before Sayer notched his hat trick with the final goal of the game at 12:40.

Western New England College freshman goalie T.J. Fatse (Hampden, MA) compiled 41 saves in almost 53 minutes while junior Justin Richards (Somers, MA) finished with a pair of stops.

Freshman goalie Ryan Casey (Pelham, NH) made 22 saves for Nichols.
