SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) honored two Western New England College players with major awards on Friday (May 22).

Sophomore second baseman Andrew Fatse (Hampden, MA) was named to the ABCA Rawlings NCAA Division III All-America Second Team while senior centerfielder Chris Newell (Wallingford, CT) was among only nine players to earn an ABCA Gold Glove Award.

Fatse, who was selected to the d3baseball.com Division III All-America Third Team on Wednesday (May 20), led the Golden Bears in hitting with a .420 average in his first year as a starter. He established a school record with 68 runs-batted-in (eighth nationally) and tied another WNEC mark with seven triples (13th nationally)

A Business major, Fatse led the Golden Bears with a .636 slugging percentage, 103 total bases and eight sacrifice flies (third nationally), and was second on the team with 68 hits.

Newell didn't make an error in 111 chances (109 putouts) this past season and was second on the team with a .404 batting average. He received his bachelor's degree in General Business on May 16.

Fatse and Newell were the only players from The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) to receive post-season awards from the ABCA.
