SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Four Western New England College players received awards from the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Thursday (May 14).
Sophomore second baseman Andrew Fatse (Hampden, MA) was selected to the All-NEIBA Division III First Team.
Entering the NCAA Division III Tournament, he was second on the team with a .411 batting average in his first year as a starter. Fatse also has a school-record 66 runs-batted-in for the season. He is a Business major.
Sophomore third baseman Tony Trubia (Tolland, CT) earned a spot on the Second Team while senior pitcher Bryan Calzone (Bethel, CT) was a Third Team pick.
Trubia is second on the squad and is currently batting .419 with 70 hits, which broke the school single season mark of 67. He is a Sport Management major.
Calzone, a lefthander, leads the pitching staff with an 8-3 record and 3.34 earned-run-average. He has walked only nine hitters in 67 1/3 innings with 38 strikeouts. Calzone is a Criminal Justice major.
Senior centerfielder Chris Newell (Wallingford, CT) was the recipient of the NEIBA Gold Glove Award. He has no errors in 97 chances (95 putouts). Newell is a Business major.
