
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England College baseball team will meet Ithaca at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13 in the NCAA Division III New York Regional Championship in Farmingdale, New York.
The Golden Bears (29-15) are seeded fifth in the six-team regional while Ithaca (29-8) is second.
WNEC will be participating in the national tournament for the fourth consecutive year and seventh time since 2001 after repeating as The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Tournament champions.
Ithaca received one of six Pool B bids to the event after capturing its 10th straight Empire 8 crown with a 14-2 mark. The Bombers are making their 33rd trip to the NCAA playoffs, most among Division III schools.
In other games Wednesday, top-seeded Cortland (30-12) meets sixth-seeded Clarkson (21-19) at noon and third seeded Rensselaer (31-9) plays fourth-seeded Farmingdale (26-14).
The double elimination tournament continues through Saturday.
There are 54 teams participating in eight regionals in this year’s tournament, including 35 conference champions who earned automatic invitations.
Regional champions advance to the NCAA Division III World Series May 22-26 in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Tickets for Wednesday's games are $3 general admission and $2 for senior citizens and students.
